Messages To My Younger Self – 17.

Yeah, look at you, you smug mare.

You’re loved up, and happier than you’ve been.  You think this is because you’ve gone into sixth form, and you can pretend you’re an adult.  But just realise how much work you’ve got ahead of you.

Well, they all warned you to take it more seriously.  To work harder.  And now you’ve messed up your AS levels.

Say good bye to your social life.  And Christmas – that is going to suuuuuuck.  Because you’ve got a lot of catching up to do, and you know it.

I’m afraid to say, sweetie, that this year is going to be a tough one.  You’re going to have your first brush with panic attacks this year.  Fortunately you’ll have someone there who can help you out, but you have to learn how they feel for yourself, and you have to find coping mechanisms because he’s not going to be there forever.

There are going to be times ahead where you feel like the world is crashing down around you.  Like everyone is getting what they want, and you’re not.  But remember – everyone wants different things.  And yes, you’re going to get rejected from 4 universities, but there will be one that wanted you first.  Don’t knock it.  Don’t apply for  a Tesco Management Course.  Go and visit the campus.  Apply for the accommodation, and just hope you can get the grades to go.

Keep your chin up, and go a little easier on yourself.

And maybe spend a bit more time with your mum and dad.  You haven’t got too long left living with them, and believe me when I tell you, you’ll miss them.
