30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 5 – Your Proudest Moment

My graduation was a very close second, but I think my proudest moment was taking part in a triathlon last year.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t do the whole thing, but I did get up at 4am to swim 750m in the Thames for charity.  Not entirely pleasant…

I could have put more training in, I could have swam faster, but it definitely was the definition of “it’s the taking part that counts”.  As a company, we raised a hell of a lot of money for The Lily Foundation – a charity that helps raise money towards finding a cure for mitochondrial disease.

I panicked as soon as I got in the water – it was cold, I didn’t like my wetsuit, and I felt like I couldn’t breathe.  That, and I couldn’t actually put my feet down.  And I kept swallowing pooey Thames water (if you’ve ever seen the Thames in real life, you’ll appreciate how grim that was).  But at the end, I got my little medal, and came out, safe in the knowledge that I’VE DONE IT, and I NEVER EVER HAVE TO DO THAT AGAIN (she says, signing up for a 10k in May…loser…).

I’d been awake for 8 hours by this point.  And it was only 12pm.
